The Witan was a meeting of Kings, wise men, magnates and religious leaders from across the land of Anglo-Saxon England to discuss the matters of the day. This year we’re bringing it to a new location in Oxfordshire.
The Witan is a weekend long event, August 25th to 27th, where the best writers, thinkers, poets, artists come together to discuss the state of the world, and what we should do about it.
This year, the Witenagemot includes: Carl Benjamin, Auron McIntyre, The Distributist, Fen De Villiers, and many more.”, ”If you want the opportunity to speak at the Witan yourself, there is opportunity to do so. Simply email us with a pitch for your talk, and we will select the best talks to invite to speak. All speakers receive free entry to the Witan, and all completed essays of good quality will be published in the event book.

Like last year, for The Witan this year we are accepting applications for speakers. We think this process was an enormous success last year as we ended with three wonderful talks, and we are sure it will be just as much a success this year. There is a wonderful community surrounding The Witan, and the speakers who have already been invited, so choosing applicant speakers from it is a way of hearing from those who don’t have the same presence as many of our headline speakers, but still have their own important ideas and insight. If you wish to apply to speak please contact Reen. The email address is andrewd@scyldings.com.
Please keep your pitch under one and a half pages long. There is not a minimum length. Just use as much space as you think you need to communicate your idea. To be accepted your pitch must fit the conference theme of ‘Against Entropy’. We may contact you to further discuss some of the ideas you put across in you pitch. This can be done in whatever way best suits you. Whether we contact you to get more details, or not, is not indicative of how likely your pitch is to be accepted. Those who submit the pitches we think fit the event best best, will be giving the opportunity to speak at The Witan. If we like your pitch but it doesn’t quite make the cut we may still ask you to extend your pitch into an essay, which we will publish in a book.
